The charges are normally same. Once try other registrar and see what are the charges. I think the charges $7 for moving to other registrar is not right thing.

When you move or register with a new domain, that doesn't have anything to do with your content right?

I feel cheated when this happens. But then this the reason why you have to plan your renewals in a timely manner.

I have move many domains out of GoDaddy well after the expiration date but before the Redemption period.

Some of the GoDaddy Resellers (Wild West Domains) will try to say a transfer out cannot take place x # of days before expiration.

But now you know it's not true.

Even Moniker claims you cannot transfer away if 7 days (I think) or less remain before expiration.

But if you complain about it they will relent.

@Pat

Great. I don't know where(i guess G-daddy) i picked up this info - “If i am not wrong, if the domain is within 1 month of its expiry date registrars won’t allow the domain to move out.” but just got stuck with it.

Thanks for the clarification. Hope it helps others as well.
