What is the best way to Monetize a Domain Name blog?

To answer this we need to go back to the basic question of Why are visitors coming to the Domain Name blog. They are coming to see if they can find some useful information.

The Power of a Domain Name blog or any blog for that matter is in the posts you are writing. I feel this is the best part of the domain name blog that can be monetized. It can be paid posts, product reviews, posts for link building etc as long as it adds value to the visitors in the form of information.

For the same reason i have so far resisted to monetize using Adsense, Affiliate ads in the side bar etc. Again i might be on the wrong foot on this one as i didn’t seriously try to monetize the blog till now.

This is my perspective. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.

I have made by first domain name sale at Bido pending payment. Overall i am impressed with Bido. Few of the unique interesting features that stood out were

1. Auto Domain Name Owner Verification

Bido asks you to add a randomly generated tag in the whois details of the flag. Once you do this, bido automatically checks for this tag in the whois details of the domain name thereby confirming you have the control over the domain name when you click on “verify”.

2. Bido’s social voting system

I have already written about this in my earlier post.

One important link missing was that, once the domain name is sold, Bido didn’t give a follow up mail after the domain name sale. I was a bit surprised as Bido mailed even when the domain name which i voted for came to auction. Honestly i was expecting a mail saying the domain name has been sold and pending payment. I only got a mail after the buyer made the payment, asking me to push the domain name.

Overall i love Bido as it gives me an easy alternative option to sell my domain names.

admin on August 24, 2009 has been recovered. The owner Mazen Ghani has updated the info on Namepros.

Since the domain was still with Moniker, there was hope for the owner to recover the name. Moniker does rock for sure.

Looks like the hacker got hold of the name and sold it right away. The Buyer has bought the domain for $14,000 through wire transfer.

Not sure about the exact way the deal was reached, but high priced domain deal by wire transfer is a big red flag especially when the Seller has no big reputation imho.

Tags: , has been stolen. The owner Mazen Ghani has reported on Namepros just few minutes back.

Hacker has hacked the hotmail email id of the owner thereby getting into the Moniker account and pushed the name. The name is still with Moniker and hence i hope there is reasonable chances of the owner getting back the name.

First of all i feel sorry for the owner. High priced domains changing hands just because one can hack an email id is a bit ridiculous. Its time we have some option where by a written authorization is required for internal transfers and external transfers.

Changing Google Adsense Publisher Id alone won’t work anymore. This used to be the way till sometime back. But now Google has changed the way it works and lets see why changing the publisher id alone won’t display the Google Adsense ads.

You have bought a website or a template which is monetized using Google Adsense Ads. The first step for you is to change the Google Adsense Publisher Id and upload the site making sure the earnings go to your Google Adsense Account. But changing adsense publisher id alone won’t work and your ads won’t get displayed. This is because in addition to the Google Adsense Publisher Id, Google also requires something called google_ad_slot.

Before going further lets take a look at the Google’s new adsense code.

Google Adsense New Code

You will notice Google has introduced the google_ad_slot which says what colors, fonts, ads type will be chosen while displaying the Google Adsense Ads. In the Google’s old adsense code these attributes will be there in the code itself as shown below.

Google Adsense Old Code

So now you can see the way Google Adsense Ads are working. In addition to changing the Google Adsense Publisher Id you will also need to know the google_ad_slot which is a unique number which will be generated by Google when you create the ads inside your Google Adsense account.

The advantage of google_ad_slot is that you don’t have to go and change the adsense codes in each of your website pages for chaning the color, type etc of the ads. You can simply change these things in your Adsense account and the changes will be reflected in all the website pages which are using these adsense codes.

First for those interested, I have my domain at Bido’s no reserve auction on 21st August 2009 i.e on Friday this week.

I was going through this week’s auction list at Bido. The following are the ones that caught my eyes.

This name definitely has development potential. I love Gold, well who doesn’t.

3 character .coms at no reserve auction.

I love Chocolates too and this one can find a few end users.

201,000“Exact” Global Monthly Searches
823,000 – “Broad” Global Monthly Searches

Huge number of monthly searches at Google. No way you can go wrong with this one.

Sedo Parking is something i prefer mostly for my non-english traffic. Normally Sedo pays the parking revenue anywhere between 7th – 9th of the month or atleast this has been my experience.

Recently i had an offer at Sedo for one of my domains and i accepted it. The domain transfer required me to send some signed documents to Sedo to initiate the transfer as it was an european domain. This coincided with the parking payment date.

I did inform Sedo that i can do a quick free push so that the Buyer can then update the whois details at his convenience for which these signed documents(Buyer can do it himself as he has the domain in his account in this case) are required and it will save time and effort for everyone. Actually i did the free push for a similar european domain earlier for my previous sale at Sedo. I did quote all these things and said it will take a few days for me to send the transfer documents if they insist me to do it that way. Sedo Transfer Agent in this case wanted to go through the signed document method.

No matter how small or big a deal is, i always make sure i do everything possible to close the deal at the earliest from my side.
But for this deal as informed to Sedo earlier, I couldn’t find time to send the transfer documents and it was dragging a bit i guess for around 3 days. To my surprise i didn’t get my Sedo Parking payment till 10th. I had a hunch that my Sedo Parking revenue has been on hold may be because they want me to send the signed transfer documents for the domain sale. I waited till 11th and i was more or less sure that this is the reason.

On 11th late in the evening i got some time and i sent the transfer documents they wanted. In an hour or so i got an email confirming Sedo has received my transfer documents and in another two minutes i got another email saying they are about to send my Sedo Parking payment. It could have been a rare coincidence or the obvious. I can’t say for sure.

But the best thing one can do is to complete any sale pending with Sedo at the earliest possible date.

There are many variations of Domain Name scams. Once such, is the Domain Name Appraisal Scam. I have just received the below mail asking me to do a Domain Appraisal and the prospective buyer will pay 65% of the appraised value. This is nothing but a scam. If i reply asking the prospective buyer to do the Domain Appraisal themselves and deduct the appraisal fees from the purchase price, i am 100% sure i won’t get a reply. Just thought of giving a heads up to everyone.

Dear Sir,

we are interested to buy your domain name ******* and offer 65% of the appraised market value.
As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies:

If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us.

As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use Paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name.

We appreciate your business,

Let us see how to install a WordPress Contact Form Plugin or WP Contact Form Plugin. Refer the post of how to install a wordpress plugin in general to start with.

Contact Form

WP Contact Form Plugin is a very useful plugin to set up a contact page so that visitors can easily send an email through this page.

1. Download the zipped copy of WP Contact Form Plugin and unzip it.

2. Upload the unzipped copy into your /public_html/wp-content/plugins folder using the ftp client. I use FileZilla as my ftp client.

3. Login to the Admin area of your wordpress blog and go to “Plugins” option. There you can see the newly updated “Contact Form 7” plugin. Activate the plugin.

4. Go to “Contact” -> “Edit” which you can find just below the “Settings”. There you can set the target email id through which your visitors should contact you.

5. Now you can make a Contact Form Post, Page or Text Widget. I will explain for the Contact Form Page. Add a new page and copy the code as shown in the below picture

Contact Form Code

into the page’s content area. Make sure you turn off the comments option for this page. Add a link to this “Contact Page” and you are done.
