Firefox crashed whenever i was trying to log into Paypal or try to open my Yahoo Mail. Also Firefox would suddenly crash when visiting random websites. Not sure what was going wrong.  It even prompted me to use Internet Explorer for a while.

Today i decided i need to sort this problem once for all. First i made sure Firefox is up to date. Second i went and disabled all the addons i installed in Firefox. I restarted Firefox and the crash went away. The point is one of the addon installed had caused the problem. I haven’t tried to figure out which addon caused the problem since i was anyway not using any of the addons.

Next time your Firefox crashes it could very well be due to the addons. You can easily figure out which addon causes the crash by disabling one by one and checking for the crash. Hope this information helps you to avoid a little frustration.

  1. This sounds like a lot of work for a “lazy domainer”. Thanks for the advice, my computer doesn’t have any problems with Firefox but my wife’s computer shuts down periodically. Now I know how to combat this.

  7. With a mac I have been getting the spinning beach ball constantly to the point that I was ready to change. But I do so hate change. I found that if you go the Profile Manager, create a new profile (dont name it default, leave that one there) and open again with the new blank profile – then close and switch back to the old profile that has all your stuff, it will get rid of beach ball and make it run smoother. Maybe this will help with the crashes too?

SO, go to “Starting the Profile Manager” on this page and
    follow instructions.

You need to quit firefox to do what it says, so I made a screen capture of the instructions instead of relying on my memory.
What was I talking about again? Oh well, bye for now.

  8. Firefox does that for me sometimes as well. For me, it is usually do to a flash crash (hey, I made a rhyme!). Updating flash player helped. Also, firefox loves to hang onto cookies and junk forever. Clearing those once in a while can help too. I also agree that you need to constantly make sure your addons are up to date.

I think it’s depending which OS you use, I’m using windows xp and I have no problems, but at my office I have Ubuntu (linux), are you using Linux? or something similar?

I had the exact same problem, so you are not alone. Here is how to solve it:
    Yahoo! Application State
If you have installed Yahoo! Messenger on your system, you may experience crashes when using Yahoo! Mail. This is caused by the Yahoo! Application State plugin (bug 322363, bug 326344). To see if this is the cause of your problems:
Type about:plugins in the Location Bar and press Enter. If you find “Yahoo! Application State” (“npYState.dll”) in the installed plugins list, exit Firefox, open the C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\shared folder and rename the file “npYState.dll” to “XnpYState.dll” to disable the plugin. Open Firefox and test Yahoo! Mail.
