Today i decided i need to sort this problem once for all. First i made sure Firefox is up to date. Second i went and disabled all the addons i installed in Firefox. I restarted Firefox and the crash went away. The point is one of the addon installed had caused the problem. I haven’t tried to figure out which addon caused the problem since i was anyway not using any of the addons.

Next time your Firefox crashes it could very well be due to the addons. You can easily figure out which addon causes the crash by disabling one by one and checking for the crash. Hope this information helps you to avoid a little frustration.

By default WordPress blog comment links are using the “no follow” attribute meaning the comment links won’t get any PR juice. Using a dofollow plugin you can suppress this “no follow” attribute and make it into a “do follow” blog.

WordPress is an easy to use CMS especially for the non techies. You can almost find a plugin for all your work.

The steps involved in making your blog comment links into “do follow” links using a WordPress plugin are as follows.

1. Install a do follow plugin such as Semilogic dofollow plugin. I have already written a post on how to install a wordpress plugin which will be useful if you want to know how to install the dofollow plugin.

2. Activate the dofollow plugin and you are done.

3. Now all your blog comment links will turn “do follow” i.e the search engines will follow those links and give them some link juice.

Alternatively you can also edit the comment template php code. By removing the “no follow” attribute you can get the same effect such as using a dofollow plugin. But then you will have to do it everytime you update the wordpress version. Dofollow plugin makes life easy from that perspective.

Lazy Domaining is a now a “do follow” blog. Anyone who makes or/and have already made quality comments will be rewarded with some link juice. Hope it helps.

Google has made a Page Rank(PR) update this month April 2010. For those interested in Google PR check your sites to see how they fare.

I use prchecker.info for checking the Google PR.

Lazy Domaining has moved from PR2 to PR3.

During the last Google PR update during January 2010, though it momentarily showed PR3 then settled to PR2. Hope that is not the case this time.

From my experience i feel Google doesn’t take sites launched under 1 month for PR calculation as i see none of my sites launched within a month have gained any PR. On a similar note one of my site(god dot co dot in) launched in the end of February 2010 has gained PR2 which is very encouraging.

Namepros.com one of the top domain name forum has been down for a few hours i guess. It was down for the past 10hrs or so and i keep checking every now and then.

Frustration because Namepros is down and more frustration because i couldn’t find any info on why it is down.

1. First thing i did was to check out the twitter. I went straight to http://twitter.com/namepros to see if NP has twitted something. To my surprise i found that page is suspended due to illegal activity. So may be the username doesn’t belong to NP and hence the suspension.

2. Second thing i did was search Google to see if someone has posted some info. This is where more frustration came. Well i accept i was too lazy to go beyond the first few search results. But still i was frustrated i couldn’t find anything on the top search results on the current status of Namepros.

3. Third i went back to twitter and searched for Namepros. Glad i found some info on mellowmasher’s tweet at http://twitter.com/mellowmasher. Thanks mellow for the tweet.

I haven’t really embraced twitter yet. But out of the top three things i did to find information on NP status twice i went to twitter. I guess its high time i start tweeting.

I have been reading some blog & forum posts – Everything had “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” written all over them. I felt this is one thing we forget in all the excitement and fun coming from domaining.

1. Blog post from Jamie. Definitely the people who are affected for no reason of theirs are going to feel the pinch and frustration. But when Bido or anyone is going to block a whole country then the problem has to be serious and hence the tough decision.

2. Forum sale from RJ at Namepros. I was checking the “side note to developers” just above the domain listings. “I lost more than 50 sites in one day because of nonexistent backups.” – This caught my attention.

What i saw from these is that you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket. We will have to spread the risks. Some do domaining for hobby and some for earning. No matter how you do it i feel when you put your money & time into something its wise to spread the risks.

How to go to Google.com instead of say Google.co.uk or Google.co.in etc etc. When you type Google.com in your browser(say firefox) you will be directed to your country(cctld) version of Google i.e Google.co.uk if your ip is in UK or Google.co.in if your ip is in India etc. Here is an info which might be of use if you already are not aware of it.

If you want to go directly to Google.com instead of the individual country version of Google, then do one of the following

1. Type www.google.com/ncr in the browser which will prevent the redirection to the country version of Google and will directly take you to Google.com.

2. Type Google.com and lets say it takes you to Google.co.uk. Now there you will find a link back to Google.com with the following caption “Go To Google.com” at the bottom. You click this and you will go to Google.com.

3. You can even search for Google.com in the Google search and go from there. When you go to Google.com from the search result i.e by clicking a link the redirection won’t happen.

Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease is a simple idiom whose meaning is Ask if you want something or in other words Those who ask will get it. I chose this title not only because it suited my story but also to experiment and see how it would fair with Google. I wrote my first post and a follow up post with the title “Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease”.

I wrote those two posts a couple of weeks back. Today i checked Google to see the effect and happy to see Lazy Domaining’s two posts have ranked 6th and 25th.

My second post(6th position) was able to climb up taking help from my first post. It was able to knock down sites like wiktionary & britannica. This again speaks volumes about the power of a blog and the fact Google loves blogs.

I am one of the Lazy Domainer and I guess there are more out there. Now you know why i chose Lazy Domaining as the domain name. Following are few things which i do regularly as a lazy domainer. Some work some don’t.

1. Proxy Bidding
Whenever some name catches my attention and when i feel i can get it within my budget i make use of the proxy bidding. I would say 80% of the times i would loose the auction by a marginally higher bid. I can’t say for sure i would have won if i had been online around the auction ending time but just that i could have tried. Most of these auctions end at my local midnight and i would be lazy to stay awake. From my experience proxy bidding never did any wonders for me.

2. Available Domain Name List
I have subscribed to a few available domain name lists by email. Mostly i would see the mail only few minutes after i have received it. I would use a bulk appraisal tool and figure out the high valued domains. As expected the top domains would have gone. This is more due to sheer luck than me being lazy. Using a bulk appraisal tool when you have a huge list of domains is a quick and rough method to spot the top domains. Once i have caught a handful of domains using this method and i was able to make a 400% ROI within a month.

I will write more on this some time later…

This post is a follow up to my earlier post “Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease”. I wrote about how we need to go and reach out to other domainers if we are in need of something. It worked.

I mailed to two fellow domainers and both of them have responded. Whats more exciting is both of them have exchanged the blogroll links with Lazy Domaining and as a matter of fact both these blogs have a higher PR & better alexa ranking compared to Lazy Domaining. This definitely proves “Domainers love fellow domainers” and are most of the times willing to help other fellow domainers even if it takes that extra mile. Please note i choosed these two blogs not because they have a higher standing but because i love both these blogs and i am a regular to these blogs.

I wanted to write this follow up post before i forget. Good i have done it and hope LD readers find it useful.
